Educational Mission

Our educational mission is to produce research-oriented professionals who are well trained in epidemiological, health policy and outcomes research, and biostatistical concepts. We seek to train professionals who are well versed in the theoretical aspects of epidemiology and health policy research and who are also able to function broadly in the medical, health care, and public health fields with all of their complex problems. To achieve this goal, courses are taught by faculty with multi-disciplinary expertise in epidemiology, health policy and health services/outcomes research, economics, biostatistics, demography, medical sociology, and psychology.

Our research-focused degree programs are primarily designed to prepare students for careers in academic settings in schools of medicine and public health. Students also will be prepared in other areas, including careers in:

  • Health agencies and paramedical institutions;
  • Consultation, especially in the biomedical fields;
  • Independent epidemiological, health policy and outcomes research

In the effort to train future leaders in epidemiology and health outcomes research and policy, educational experiences extend beyond the classroom to include involvement in ongoing research projects and policy analyses.
